Google will require only Android Go to be installed on weak smartphones
Google, according to internal documentation, intends to make the installation of a light version of the Android operating system mandatory for smartphones with a small amount of RAM. These include mobile phones with a RAM capacity of 2 GB or less. It is on them that the installation of Android Go may become mandatory.
As stated in the document, starting with the release of Android 11 for devices with 512 MB of RAM, the installation of GMS – Google mobile services will not be available. In addition, starting in the fourth quarter of 2020, all new devices, if they enter the market with preinstalled Android 10 and are equipped with 2 GB of RAM or less, should switch to the light version of it – Android Go. The rule does not apply to previously released smartphones.
Android Go was originally developed for mobile devices with 1 GB of RAM, but there was no requirement to install this particular OS version. Later, the company raised the bar for RAM up to 2 GB, announcing suitable devices with partners.
