Samsung flagships will be able to store German ID cards
Samsung announced the introduction of a new feature in the Galaxy S20 line – the devices will be able to act as ID cards in Germany. The use of a national ID-card has become possible thanks to cooperation with the German Federal Office for Information Security and Deutsche Telekom Security.
A secure architecture has been developed to ensure the security of storing such confidential information. The system is based on a separate Samsung chip – it is responsible for security. ID-card data is stored directly on the smartphone and does not require the Internet to access this information. The first smartphones to support this system will be the Galaxy S20, S20 + and S20 Ultra. The technology will probably be added to the top-end Galaxy Note20 line, but the models have not yet been officially presented.
In the future, it is possible to add other documents to the smartphone: driver’s license, insurance policies, and so on.
