Elon Musk is still skeptical of the Covid-19 pandemic. But he promised to make ventilators in case of shortage.

The head of Tesla and SpaceX does not close the factories, tells employees about the greater chance of dying in a car accident and writes that panic is much more dangerous than the virus itself.

The Covid-19 pandemic is spreading more and more around the world every day – by March 19, more than 200 thousand cases of infection have already been recorded. Heads of state predict “difficult times”, celebrities on social networks ask people to stay at home and observe quarantine, but there is at least one famous person who expresses the opposite point of view – and this is Elon Musk.

At the same time, the head of Tesla and SpaceX does not completely deny the threat of a coronavirus. In severe cases of Covid-19 disease, patients require a connection to mechanical ventilation apparatus (IVL). With a lack of equipment, doctors will have to actually choose which of the infected live and who die – this is already happening in Italy.

Against this background, a Twitter user asked Elon Musk to set up the production of ventilators to help hospitals fight coronavirus. The entrepreneur in response promised to make the necessary equipment, but only in case of shortage.

Please redirect your plants to the production of ventilators, which are so needed. I am the owner of Tesla and love the company. You need to stop acting like an idiot with a coronavirus. This is a massive disaster. Ask doctors in this area

We will start the production of ventilators, if there is a shortage

FiveThirtyEight founder Nate Silver joined in the conversation. He replied to Musk that ventilators were needed right now. Many American media write about this: only New York alone needs 18 thousand devices to control the situation, and, according to the American Association of Physicians, a critical situation can arise in several states at once. All this – apart from equipment problems throughout the rest of the world.

Musk noted that it is possible to make ventilators based on Tesla and SpaceX technologies, but production cannot be set up “instantly”. When he plans to proceed with actions, the entrepreneur did not specify.

There is already a shortage, how many ventilators can you make?

Tesla manufactures cars with sophisticated ventilation systems. SpaceX makes a spaceship with life support systems. Ventilators are not very complicated, but they cannot be done right away. Which hospitals are facing the deficit you are talking about?

This is great news. I don’t know exactly which hospitals need them, but, as I understand it, the hospitals in New York and Seattle are under threat. If you are a hospital with a shortage of ventilators or are able to make a list, then let us know

As a result, hundreds of people demanded that Musk start production now, so that later it would not be too late.

In which bubble does Elon Musk live, that he does not understand that there is a shortage of ventilation devices now?

Elon – take a look at Italy. They have state-of-the-art healthcare at the US level, and now they decide who to connect to the ventilator and who to die. If you and your team can make machines, but start now to save lives. Trump and his team are incompetent in this

Hi, Elon Musk. We once met at a party. I drive one of your cars. My wife is a doctor. There is already a shortage. Please make ventilators. thanks

In March, when Covid-19 reached the United States, the position of Elon Musk on the coronavirus several times fell into the public field, causing criticism. Basically, he spoke out on Twitter: the main thesis of the entrepreneur was the opinion that panic due to a pandemic harms much more than the pandemic itself.

Coronavirus Panic – Dullness

Fear is the killer of the mind

Moral condemnation is not used for morality, but as a weapon for manipulation

My guess is that panic will do more harm than the virus itself. If not already brought
In other posts, Elon Musk discussed in more detail about the coronavirus. In his opinion, the situation should stabilize by the end of April, and the mortality of Covid-19 is exaggerated due to the peculiarities of testing.

[News] Imperial College of Epidemiologists predicts up to 2.2 million deaths from Covid-19 in the US, more than half a million in Britain

0% what will happen or something similar

See the monitoring schedule on the U.S. CDC website. New “confirmed” cases, not “potentially positive”, will decline in the following weeks and will become insignificant by the end of April. The same trend as in China

The infectiousness of Covid-19 is exaggerated due to equating the date of diagnosis with excessive extrapolation of exponential growth. This never happens in reality. Keep extrapolating and the virus will exceed the mass of our universe!

The mortality rate is also exaggerated. Because there are few test kits, those who die of respiratory symptoms are tested. And those who have been ill with minimal symptoms are usually not. The prevalence of coronaviruses and other acute respiratory viral infections among the population is very high!

However, the danger of panic still exceeds the danger of coronavirus. If we transfer all our strength to coronavirus, then this will happen due to other diseases.

Since March 16, a shelter in place regime has been announced in California – all production is closed, except for the “vital”. Despite this, Elon Musk did not begin to close the Tesla plant. At the same time, company employees were allowed free visits if they felt symptoms of illness or discomfort. In a letter to staff, Musk predicted that the number of infected people “would not exceed 0.1%” of the world’s population.

According to Buzzfeed, the entrepreneur also turned to SpaceX employees, saying that coronavirus is not even one of the top 100 health threats in the United States. As an example, he said that Americans are more likely to die in a car accident than die from a coronavirus.

Meanwhile, in the United States, Covid-19 has already infected almost 9.5 thousand people – this is the sixth largest number of cases in the world. 150 people died. According to the “worst” scenario of the authorities, Covid-19 will infect between 160 and 214 million Americans. U.S. CDC and WHO advise social distance to slow the spread of the virus.

Social distance and self-isolation during the coronavirus
