Simon Weckert, who lives in Berlin, arranged a kind of performance and “broke” Google maps. For this, the enthusiast used a cart on wheels and 99 used smartphones in it. With this cargo, Weckert went on foot along the carriageway of deserted streets, eventually deceiving the smart algorithms of a search corporation.
The system considered that a transport collapse occurred at the place where the artist walked, and painted the street in an appropriate color. Drivers who are blindly guided by the advice of Google Maps, probably decided to avoid a non-existent traffic jam and went around.
Simon Vekert’s goal was to show how people today are dependent on technology, how they can influence a person, his behavior, actions and life in general.
