Ghibli has long resisted making its iconic animated films digitally available, but now it has “listened to fans and made the final decision.”
Starting in February, studio films, including the most famous My Totoro Neighbor, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away, will be available on Netflix worldwide, with the exception of the United States, Canada, and Japan.
All films will be shown with subtitles in 28 languages. In addition to them, dubbing in 20 languages will be available. Their list is still unknown.
The United States was included in the list of exception countries, because in this country the HBO Max online cinema previously received exclusive rights to stream studio films – it will be launched before the end of spring.
Thus, by mid-2020, Ghibli animated films will be available in streaming around the world.
In December, in the United States and Canada, the Ghibli catalog of paintings also became available for purchase on almost all digital platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon and Google Play – at a price of $ 20 per film.
