
Curiosity rover shot the most voluminous panorama of Mars during its existence. The 1.8-gigapixel image is made up of more than a thousand individual photographs, which are put together using special algorithms. They were shot with a Mastcam (Mast Camera), capable of capturing both color photos and videos.
Each image has a resolution of approximately 1600 x 1200 pixels, data is written to a 8 GB drive.
The photos used to create the panorama were taken at the end of 2019. Scientists have chosen a time when part of NASA employees went on Christmas holidays and there was nothing to occupy the Mars rover (figuratively speaking). This period was used to take pictures.
