In the first beta version of iOS 13.4, they found a mention of the CarKey function, which turns the iPhone and Apple Watch into a car key.
IOS 13.4 code has an API called CarKey. Thanks to it, users will be able to use the iPhone with NFC to open and start the machine.
They don’t even have to go through Face ID authorization. The whole process will take place automatically: just bring the iPhone or Apple Watch to the car.
Connecting the car to the iPhone will be through Wallet. You will need a machine application to continue the setup. To add an electronic key, users need to bring the phone to the NFC-tag in the car, then Wallet with the CarKey interface will open.
Another interesting feature of the function is that the owner of the machine will be able to share the electronic key with other people through Wallet.
Apple is probably working with some automakers to integrate CarKey. We will learn more information about this function most likely after the release of the final version of iOS 13.4. [ 9to5Mac ]
