Nvidia: Cyberpunk 2077 ray tracing will work on any DXR- enabled GPU

In other words, not only on Nvidia cards.

At the end of October, several media outlets spread the news that ray tracing in Cyberpunk 2077 would only work on Nvidia graphics cards. However, in a conversation with Wccftech, the company clarified that this is not the case.

Cyberpunk 2077 uses the standard DirectX Ray Tracing API. Tracing will work on any DXR-enabled GPU. There is nothing about tracing from the game that was developed in-house by Nvidia.

Thus, ray tracing should work without problems on AMD RX 6000 cards, presented at the end of October. They will go on sale in November and December with support for all DirectX 12 Ultimate technologies.

Cyberpunk 2077 only works on DirectX 12 Ultimate – previously, CD Projekt RED explained that they chose this API for two reasons: it is a standard API for Xbox consoles, and ray tracing started with it.

This also means that tracing may appear on PS5 with Xbox Series, it’s just a matter of optimization. On PC, the game supports four ray tracing effects at once, but how many will get to consoles is still unclear.

The update for Cyberpunk 2077 under the next gen will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series only in 2021, but on the next generation consoles, as CD Projekt RED said, the game will still look better from release.

The release of Cyberpunk 2077 after the postponement is scheduled for December 10.
