According to Reuters, Apple has refused full encryption of backups that users place on the iCloud cloud service, yielding to the requirements of the US authorities. Pavel Durov, who once founded the VKontakte social network, and later the Telegram messenger, commented on the material published by the news agency.
“Now iCloud has officially become a tracking tool, ” the businessman wrote. He added that applications that use the power of the Apple cloud service have become “part of the problem.” In particular, Durov mentioned the WhatsApp messenger.
Over the past few years, Apple and the FBI have constantly hinted at a conflict: the feds accuse the company of not wanting to help investigate high-profile cases by hiding user information stored on iPhone and iCloud.
Apple, in turn, says that it cannot give access to the memory of a locked mobile phone, and it provides requests for access to cloud services in certain cases. Or contributes to this.
