Phil Spencer on the frame rate on Series X: “We wanted to focus not only on the number of pixels, but also on the sensations”

Both next-generation consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X, will support resolutions up to 8K. However, this does not mean that both companies will chase him and push other developers to this.

At least you should not expect this from Microsoft – as the head of the Xbox, Phil Spencer, said in an interview for Stevivor, while working on Series X, the company wanted to not only add pixels, but also provide a good gaming experience.

We never tried to limit the developers to what they are trying to achieve on our platform, whether it be 60 FPS on the Xbox 360 or now 4K and 60 FPS on the Xbox One X. We want to give them the tools to try what they I want on any of our platforms.

In the Xbox One X generation, we have already reached the point where games look amazing and we still have room to make them even better. However, I want them to feel as great as they look.

This is almost absent on the current generation, largely due to the fact that the CPU does not catch up with the GPU in terms of power and cannot provide the frame rate and its stability that we would like.

Thinking about the future, we wanted to focus not only on the number of pixels, but also on the sensations from games.
