Roskomnadzor agreed with the Prosecutor General on the issue of blocking the Telegram messenger and lifted the requirements to restrict access to it, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the agency. Probably, in connection with the publication of the news, the official website of Roskomnadzor is currently working with serious interruptions.
“We positively assess the readiness expressed by the founder of Telegram to counter terrorism and extremism. By agreement with the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, Roskomnadzor removes requirements to restrict access to the Telegram messenger, ” Roskomnadzor reports.
The Telegram messenger was ordered to block in Russia in the spring of 2018 after the administration refused to provide the FSB with keys for decrypting messages. Blocking did not affect the messenger too much.
