The game director is confident that players will not see such image quality in games for some time, and advises preparing OLED TVs.
Thomas Mahler, Creative Director of Moon Studios, shared the technical details on the ResetEra forum. According to him, in one mode on Xbox Series X, Ori and the Will of the Wisaps uses a straightforward supersampling anti-aliasing method to internally render a picture in 6K resolution and output it in 4K with higher definition.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps on Xbox Series X will have a mode that internally renders the game in 6K and supersamples it up to 4K. I don’t think that in the near future you will find anything comparable to this in terms of picture quality. Get your LG OLED ready!
Ori and the Will of the Wisps isn’t the only Series X game to downsample from 6K to 4K. As told in Digital Foundry, The Touryst also works in one of the modes on the new generation console.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps will be available with an upgrade on Xbox Series X on the console’s launch day, November 10. In the game, among other things, a mode with a frequency of 120 frames per second will be available.
