Three months have passed since the first cases of Covid-19 coronavirus were detected. During this time, the number of infected reached 121 thousand, and the deaths – more than 4.3 thousand people. In China and Italy  quarantine cities are closed , mass events are banned in these and other countries, and exhibitions, presentations and festivals are canceled.

February 4 – almost 70 thousand movie theaters closed in China, and the premieres of the films “Jojo Rabbit”, “Doctor Dolittle”, “1917” and “Hellboy” were canceled. According to analysts, Chinese film distributors lost about $ 200 million due to coronavirus quarantine.

February 28 – The Geneva Motor Show was canceled due to a ban by the Swiss authorities on meetings of more than 1000 people. The organizers called the cancellation “force majeure” and refused to indemnify private owners: “If someone wants to sue them, good luck.”

The organizers of the GDC video game developers conference rescheduled the event for the summer – later they will give exact dates. Previously, Sony, PlayStation, Facebook and Oculus refused to participate in the conference due to the epidemic of the coronavirus Covid-19.

March 3 – Google canceled its largest I / O developer conference, which was due to take place May 12-14 in California. The organizers said they were thinking about the format of an online conference.

March 4 – the premiere of the film “It’s Not Time to Die” about James Bond was postponed from April to November. Due to the closure of movie theaters in Italy, China, South Korea and Japan, the film would probably fail at the box office.

The organizers of the electronic music festival Tomorrowland announced the cancellation of the event in connection with the order of the French authorities. Tomorrowland was to be held in the French Alps from March 14 to 21.

March 6 – the organizers canceled the TwitchCon event dedicated to video games and streams – those who bought tickets will be refunded. TwitchCon was due to take place in Amsterdam on May 2-3.

March 7 – City of Austin, Texas, canceled a South by Southwest conference on technology, education, music, and video games. Due to the cancellation, the city budget lost about 350 million dollars – so much for the days of the event, the city earned in 2019.

March 9 – the organizers postponed the exhibition of household appliances and technologies CES Asia 2020 for an indefinite period. The event was to be held on June 10-12 in Shanghai.

March 10 – Apple postponed the presentation of the iPhone SE2 indefinitely. The company did not manage to announce the presentation, but several media reported that it was supposed to be held on March 31.

The Italian football championship was suspended until April 3. The National Olympic Committee called for training athletes on the street, observing protective measures against coronavirus.

In Moscow , mass events were banned until April 10. The restrictions apply to events with more than 5,000 participants – rallies and sporting events, such as RPL matches, were also banned.

March 11th

Coachella Festival, held annually in April in California, was moved to October – this is the first case of its transfer. Coachella was supposed to be performed by Travis Scott, Rage Against the Machine, Calvin Harris, Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey, Leningrad and others.

Tinder has canceled the premiere of the series Swipe Night. The creators explained this by the fact that under the conditions of quarantine for coronavirus in many countries, the “apocalyptic” theme of the series will be difficult to present correctly.

The launch of the ExoMars spacecraft was postponed to 2022. Roscosmos and the European Space Agency explained this by the difficult situation in the world because of the coronavirus and the need for additional tests.

The final stages of the Women’s Ski Jumping World Cup were canceled in Nizhny Tagil and Tchaikovsky. This is due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Oslo Biathlon World Cup stage was canceled , it was supposed to go from March 20-22.

The premiere of the movie “Quiet Place-2” was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. At first, the rental transfer touched the UK movie theaters, but later spread to the whole world in order to avoid piracy.

The release of “Fast and the Furious 9” was postponed for almost a year – from May 22, 2020 to April 2, 2021. The reason was called the possible loss of fees due to the spread of COVID-19.

March 13

In the United States, due to the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus, Disney has closed two amusement parks – Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. They will be closed from March 14 to the end of the month. Disneyland Resort hotels will continue to run until March 16 to allow guests to check out. Universal for the same reason closed its own theme park Universal Studios Hollywood.
