US officially calls Huawei and ZTE a national security threat

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has officially recognized Huawei and ZTE as a threat to national security.

This means that US companies are prohibited from using federal funds to purchase and install equipment from these Chinese technology giants. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said that Huawei and ZTE are subject to Chinese law, so they may be required to cooperate with the secret services of the country.

We cannot and will not allow the Chinese Communist Party to exploit network vulnerabilities and jeopardize our communications infrastructure.

The decision entered into force immediately upon signing. [ ZDNet ]
